The design of the 1919 Monument Marquee culminated through a design competition for honouring the 100 year anniversary of the events surrounding the Winnipeg general strike of 1919, a watermark event for industrialized labour. The large weathering steel cantilevered columns provide the opportunity for a covered gathering area open to all pedestrians of the City, while supporting a word search-like grid of letters full of layered meaning.

The 1919 strike monument marquee won the Canadian Institute for Steel Construction (CISC) award in 2018 for it’s use of integrated architectural and structural detailing.
